The Greater System

Like mine

your heart moves at the center

of the universe

that beat, those portals

rising

rising from the chest

running round and round

a lingering temple

red flowing

replenishing

red cycling.

When we tell you to breath

breath deep

and long

and naturally

breathe again.

Breath the air

it’s been everywhere

beckoning you to care

been breathed by your mother

exhaled by the trees

it’s danced on high crests of waves

stirred entangled in whirlpools

you’ll never know.

The breath of the planet

brings breath into you

being one in all

Standing there, Earth passing through you

a blue light

a gold chain

you smell flowers after rainfall

see legs and the parade

and later sing to others

the currents you have found

to know yourself

amid all other figures

swift and smooth and connected

by a cough on the trail

a rootlet in the soil

You know it cannot fail.

Eternal circulation

lets water flow

and the body grow

retrieves you from somewhere known

bringing rivers over roads.

Your hands go float to the sky

those branches from branches

from trunk into root

you’ll just stand and

play with winds, with sand

flying around your feet

so you can feel the beat

it beats and beats

until the dirt covers your feet

and how could you tell

when red no longer swells

when your breath does not meld

and your body is left

to spread into Earth.
